“A cruel injustice” – Gerry Adams

The story below appeared in the Sunday World.

CASNI comment: The Bethany home saga featured in a RTE made a documentary, involved no sexual abuse claims against the lady who ran the small home. This home was run by a Protestant church and not the State, therefore would not come under the remit of historical institutional abuse which the Irish government has done much to address for the victims of the Roman Catholic Church.

Gerry Adams and Sinn Fein’s time and comments would better serve Northern Ireland’s child sex abuse scandal by calling for an independent public inquiry into the matter. Sinn Fein hold all the power in the Stormont executive and can have any public inquiry set up they wish. Sinn Fein’s public position on the child sex abuse scandal committed by the Roman Catholic church in Northern Ireland is that they have no connection to any victims groups or in anyway support them. This is the DUP/SF strategy for the future of Northern Ireland. Not a penny nor any public inquiry inquiry will ever be given to the victims of Roman Catholic Church abuse.
